Of little wuvs...

By Lori Stone

On my adventures about town, I often find little reminders of Sugarloaf. A llama here, a daisy there.

But imagine my surprise, when shopping in my local thrift shop a few years back, when I stumbled upon this little gem (the first one in B/W on the left):

Most of you are familiar with our campfire tradition of singing "The Little Blue Man", a song in which a little companion declares, "I wuv you, I wuv you to bits!" What you might not know is that the song goes back to the 50s, and you can hear a version by Betty Johnson online here. I'm assuming that when these statues were popular in mid-century America that there was a tie-in (if anyone knows the full answer to that, let me know!).

Since then, I've run across these little guys a few more times-see the color version where he's holding...wait for it...a DAISY!...another fun campfire song tradition. Now, just to find some blue paint for him.

New ones will likely find their way as gifts to my Sugarloaf Friends. Keep an eye out for your own treasure!
